- Prescription-only medicine (Rx)
- Strip of 15 tablets
Active Ingredient
Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate IP 200 mg.
Uses / Benefits
Used for the treatment and prevention of malaria, and as a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) in the long-term management of rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, where it helps reduce joint pain, swelling and disease flares over time.
How to Use
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, with food or milk to reduce stomach upset. For malaria prevention, dosing typically starts before travel and continues for a period after return, as directed. For autoimmune conditions, it is usually taken long-term, and benefits may take several weeks to become noticeable.
Precautions
Long-term use requires periodic eye examinations, as hydroxychloroquine can rarely affect the retina with prolonged use. Use with caution if you have liver or kidney disease, psoriasis, or a history of heart rhythm problems. Inform your doctor of all other medicines you take, and avoid use in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised.
Side Effects
Nausea, stomach upset, headache and dizziness are common, especially when starting treatment. Rare but serious effects include vision changes and heart rhythm disturbances, which is why regular monitoring is recommended with long-term use.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture, and out of reach of children.
