Calcimax Forte+ Tablet – Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D3 by Meyer

Calcimax Forte+ from Meyer Vitabiotics is a film-coated bone-support tablet containing Calcium Carbonate IP 1000 mg (equivalent to 400 mg elemental calcium), Magnesium Hydroxide IP 240 mg (100 mg elemental magnesium), Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate IP 11 mg (4 mg elemental zinc) and Vitamin D3 500 IU. The vitamin D3 is not an optional extra here – it is the reason the calcium works. Without adequate vitamin D, only a small fraction of dietary calcium is absorbed from the gut, so a large calcium dose taken alone mostly passes through. D3 raises that absorption several-fold, which is why the two are almost always paired. Magnesium and zinc are the quieter partners: magnesium is required for the enzyme that converts vitamin D into its active form and for normal muscle function, while zinc is needed by the bone-building osteoblasts themselves. The calcium is Indian Pharmacopoeia grade calcium carbonate, and the tablet is coloured with curcumin rather than a synthetic dye. Strip of 30 tablets.

Directions for Use

• One tablet twice daily, or as directed by the physician, as printed on the pack
• Take it with or just after food – calcium carbonate needs stomach acid to dissolve and is absorbed far better with a meal
• Swallow the tablet whole with water
• Split the two tablets across the day rather than taking both together – the gut absorbs calcium best in doses of about 500 mg at a time
• Leave a gap of two hours between this and iron tablets, thyroid tablets, or tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics

Precautions

• Do not take calcium supplements alongside a high-dose vitamin D prescription without your doctor’s knowledge – excess calcium in the blood is a real risk
• Not for people with high blood or urine calcium, kidney stones or significant kidney disease, unless a doctor directs it
• Constipation, bloating and wind are the most common effects. Fluids and dietary fibre usually help
• Tell your doctor if you take digoxin, thiazide diuretics, thyroid hormone, iron or certain antibiotics – timing or dose may need adjusting
• Report persistent nausea, vomiting, unusual thirst, confusion or bone pain, which can signal too much calcium
• The front of the pack quotes compound weights – the 1000 mg and 240 mg are calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide, which supply 400 mg of calcium and 100 mg of magnesium as the elements themselves

Storage

• Store below 25°C at a dry place. Protect from light, as printed on the pack
• Keep the tablets in the blister until use
• Keep medicines out of reach of children
