Procart-Plus Tablet – Curcumin 500 mg with Piperine and Guggul Extract

Procart-Plus from Jointcare Pharmaceuticals is a film-coated food supplement tablet carrying Curcumin 95% – 500 mg, Piperine 50% – 10 mg and Oleo-Gum-Resin Extract (Bdellium/Guggul) – 200 mg. The 10 mg of piperine is doing a specific job and is the reason this combination exists. Curcumin has a long-standing absorption problem: taken on its own, most of what you swallow is either poorly absorbed or rapidly conjugated by the gut wall and liver and cleared before it can do anything. Piperine, the pungent principle of black pepper, inhibits that conjugation step – and a small quantity alongside curcumin raises its bioavailability by a large multiple. So the 500 mg of curcumin here behaves quite differently from 500 mg of plain turmeric powder. Guggul, the oleo-gum-resin of Commiphora mukul, is the classical Ayurvedic resin for joint and metabolic support. Strip of 10 tablets.

Precautions

• Piperine raises the blood levels of several medicines, not just curcumin. If you take any regular prescription – especially phenytoin, propranolol, theophylline or a blood thinner – tell your doctor before starting
• Turmeric and guggul can both increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants and are usually stopped before surgery
• Guggul can affect thyroid hormone levels – mention it if you have a thyroid condition
• Not recommended in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or for children
• May aggravate acid reflux or gallbladder pain in susceptible people
