Cresar-AM Tablet – Telmisartan 40 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg by Cipla

Cresar-AM from Cipla contains Telmisartan 40 mg with Amlodipine 5 mg – probably the most prescribed two-drug blood pressure combination in India, and for good reason. The two work at different points and, unusually, one softens the other’s main drawback. Amlodipine relaxes arteries very effectively but causes fluid to pool in the ankles in a fair number of patients; telmisartan relaxes the veins as well, which helps drain that fluid away. The result is that the combination causes noticeably less ankle swelling than amlodipine alone at an equivalent dose – a rare instance of adding a drug reducing a side effect rather than adding one. Directions for Use

• Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; may be taken with or without food
• Keep taking it even when you feel well – high blood pressure usually has no symptoms
• Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-based salt substitutes unless your doctor says so
• Do not stop or change the dose on your own; pressure rebounds when treatment stops

Precautions

• Stop immediately and contact your doctor if you become pregnant. The pack warns that telmisartan can cause injury and even death to the developing baby when used in the second and third trimesters
• Seek emergency care for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
• Ankle swelling, flushing and headache are the typical amlodipine effects – report swelling that troubles you
• Blood tests for kidney function and electrolytes are done before and during treatment
• Dizziness on standing is common early on, and worse if you are dehydrated
• Tell your doctor about kidney disease, renal artery narrowing, liver disease, or if you take NSAIDs or lithium

Storage

• Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
• Keep tablets in the original blister until use
• Keep out of reach of children
