Telma-Beta 25 Tablet ER – Telmisartan 40 mg + Metoprolol Succinate 25 mg ER by Glenmark

Telma-Beta 25 ER from Glenmark contains Telmisartan 40 mg with Metoprolol Succinate 25 mg in extended-release form. Pairing an ARB with a beta blocker targets a particular patient: someone whose blood pressure is high and whose heart is working too hard – a fast resting pulse, angina, palpitations, or recovery after a heart attack. Telmisartan lowers the resistance the heart pumps against; metoprolol slows the heart itself and reduces the force of each beat. The extended-release succinate salt matters: plain metoprolol tartrate peaks and fades across the day, taking heart rate up and down with it, while the succinate ER form holds a steady level over 24 hours. Strip of 10 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

  • For high blood pressure with a fast pulse, angina or palpitations
  • Also used to protect the heart after a heart attack

Uses & Benefits

  • Lowers blood pressure while slowing and steadying the heart
  • Useful where high pressure comes with palpitations or angina
  • Protects the heart after a heart attack
  • Extended release gives steadier control than plain metoprolol
  • Two medicines in one daily tablet
  • No dry cough, unlike ACE inhibitor combinations

Directions for Use

  • Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day
  • Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew it
  • Never stop suddenly – the beta blocker must be tapered by your doctor
  • Keep taking it even when you feel well; high blood pressure usually has no symptoms
  • Report a very slow pulse, new breathlessness or swollen ankles to your doctor

Precautions

  • Stop immediately and contact your doctor if you become pregnant. The pack warns that telmisartan can cause injury and even death to the developing baby when used in the second and third trimesters
  • Never stop suddenly. Abruptly stopping a beta blocker can cause chest pain, a surge in blood pressure or a heart attack – it must be tapered by your doctor
  • Beta blockers mask the warning signs of low blood sugar – diabetics should monitor more closely
  • Not for use in asthma or severe COPD without specialist advice; it can trigger wheezing
  • Tell your doctor about a slow heart rate, heart block, severe liver disease or circulation problems in the hands and feet
  • Blood tests for kidney function and electrolytes are done before and during treatment

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
