Telmikind-H Tablet – Telmisartan 40 mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg by Mankind
Telmikind-H from Mankind Pharma contains Telmisartan IP 40 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide IP 12.5 mg in an uncoated bilayered tablet – the two drugs pressed into separate layers rather than blended, which keeps them chemically apart until the tablet dissolves. The pairing is one of the oldest and best-established in blood pressure medicine. Telmisartan relaxes blood vessels; hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, makes the kidney pass more salt and water, reducing the volume the heart has to push. They also cancel one of each other’s weaknesses: thiazides tend to lower potassium, while telmisartan tends to raise it. The pack carries an instruction worth heeding – these are moisture-sensitive tablets, so do not pop one out of the strip until you are about to take it. Strip of 10 tablets. Schedule G and H prescription medicine.

Uses & Benefits
- Lowers blood pressure more than either drug alone
- Reduces fluid volume as well as relaxing blood vessels
- The two drugs offset each other’s effect on blood potassium
- Useful when a single medicine has not achieved target pressure
- Two medicines in one daily tablet
- No dry cough, unlike ACE inhibitor combinations
Directions for Use
- Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; may be taken with or without food
- Keep taking it even when you feel well – high blood pressure usually has no symptoms
- Do not remove the tablet from the strip until immediately before taking it – the pack states these are moisture sensitive
- Take it in the morning if possible; the diuretic increases urination and an evening dose can disturb sleep
Precautions
- Stop immediately and contact your doctor if you become pregnant. The pack warns that telmisartan can cause injury and even death to the developing baby when used in the second and third trimesters
- Seek emergency care for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, although this is rarer than with ACE inhibitors
- The thiazide can lower potassium and sodium and raise uric acid and blood sugar. Blood tests are needed, and tell your doctor if you have gout or diabetes
- Dizziness on standing is common early on, and worse if you are dehydrated or taking diuretics
- Thiazides increase sun sensitivity – use sun protection
- Tell your doctor about kidney disease, renal artery narrowing, liver disease, or if you take NSAIDs or lithium
Storage
- Store in a dry place at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light, as printed on the pack
- Keep the tablets in the strip until use – they are moisture sensitive
- Keep out of reach of children
