Oxra 10 mg Tablet – Dapagliflozin 10 mg by Sun Pharma

Oxra 10 from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries contains Dapagliflozin 10 mg, an SGLT2 inhibitor for type 2 diabetes. Its mechanism is unlike any older diabetes drug. The kidney filters glucose out of the blood all day and then reabsorbs almost all of it through a transporter called SGLT2. Dapagliflozin blocks that transporter, so surplus glucose is simply passed out in the urine instead of being reclaimed. Because it does not push the pancreas to make more insulin, it rarely causes low blood sugar on its own, and the calories lost in urine usually bring modest weight loss. The same drug is now used in heart failure and chronic kidney disease, where it protects both organs independently of its effect on sugar. Blister of 14 tablets. Prescription medicine.

Key Features

Uses & Benefits

  • Lowers blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
  • Little risk of hypoglycaemia when taken on its own
  • Usually produces modest weight loss
  • Lowers blood pressure slightly
  • Protects the heart in heart failure and slows chronic kidney disease
  • Taken once daily, with or without food

Directions for Use

  • Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed, usually in the morning
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; may be taken with or without food
  • Drink enough water through the day – this medicine increases urine output
  • Continue your diet, exercise and blood sugar monitoring as advised
  • Do not stop without your doctor’s advice, even if your sugar readings improve

Precautions

  • Genital and urinary infections are the commonest problem, because sugar in the urine feeds them. Wash and dry the genital area daily, and report burning on passing urine, itching or discharge
  • Seek urgent care for pain, swelling, redness or tenderness in the genital or perineal area with fever – a rare but serious infection needs immediate treatment
  • Ketoacidosis can occur even with near-normal blood sugar. Report nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, unusual tiredness or breathlessness urgently
  • Dehydration and dizziness on standing can occur, especially in older patients or alongside diuretics
  • Tell your doctor before surgery, or if you become unwell and are eating little – the medicine is usually paused
  • Discuss kidney disease, liver disease, pregnancy and breastfeeding with your doctor before starting

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
