Carloc 25 mg Tablet – Carvedilol 25 mg by Cipla

Carloc 25 from Cipla contains Carvedilol IP 25 mg in an uncoated tablet. Carvedilol is a beta blocker with an extra property most others lack: alongside blocking beta receptors, which slows the heart and reduces its workload, it also blocks alpha-1 receptors, relaxing blood vessels so the heart pumps against less resistance. That combination is why it is a mainstay in heart failure rather than only in blood pressure. In heart failure the body floods itself with adrenaline to compensate for a weak pump, and that constant stimulation slowly damages the heart further; carvedilol interrupts the cycle, and is one of the few drugs shown to help people with heart failure live longer. Strip of 10 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Carvedilol IP 25 mg uncoated tablet
  • Beta and alpha-1 blocker – slows the heart and relaxes blood vessels
  • A cornerstone of heart failure treatment, not just blood pressure
  • Also used in angina and after a heart attack
  • Strip of 10 tablets from Cipla Ltd.

Composition

  • Carvedilol IP – 25 mg per uncoated tablet
  • Colour – Red Oxide of Iron

Composition as printed on the pack. Refer to the package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Improves survival and symptoms in chronic heart failure
  • Lowers high blood pressure
  • Reduces the frequency of angina attacks
  • Protects the heart after a heart attack
  • Slows the heart and reduces its workload
  • Relaxes blood vessels through additional alpha blockade

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed – in heart failure the dose is started very low and raised slowly over weeks
  • Take it with food. Food slows absorption and reduces the dizziness that follows a dose
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water, at the same times each day
  • Never stop suddenly. Abruptly stopping a beta blocker can cause chest pain, a dangerous rise in blood pressure or a heart attack
  • Symptoms may briefly worsen when the dose is first increased – tell your doctor rather than stopping

Precautions

  • Do not stop this medicine abruptly – it must be tapered by your doctor
  • Dizziness and fainting are most likely after the first dose and each dose increase. Rise slowly and take the first dose where you can sit down
  • Beta blockers mask the warning signs of low blood sugar – diabetics should monitor more closely, as the usual trembling and pounding heart may not appear
  • Not for use in asthma or severe COPD without specialist advice; it can trigger wheezing
  • Tell your doctor about a slow heart rate, heart block, severe liver disease or peripheral circulation problems
  • Tell any eye surgeon you take carvedilol before cataract surgery, and report unusual weight gain, swollen ankles or worsening breathlessness

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light, as printed on the pack
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
  • Keep out of reach of children
