Emeset 4 mg Tablet – Ondansetron 4 mg by Cipla

Emeset 4 mg Tablet from Cipla contains Ondansetron 4 mg, a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist and one of the most widely prescribed anti-emetics in India. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and anaesthesia all cause gut cells to release serotonin, which triggers vomiting through 5-HT3 receptors; ondansetron blocks those receptors so the signal never arrives. Unlike older anti-emetics it does not cause sedation or the movement side effects associated with dopamine blockers. Strip of 10 tablets. Prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Ondansetron 4 mg – selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist
  • No sedation, unlike older anti-emetics
  • Free of the movement side effects seen with dopamine blockers
  • For chemotherapy, radiotherapy and post-operative nausea
  • Strip of 10 tablets from Cipla Ltd.

Composition

  • Ondansetron – 4 mg per tablet

Refer to the pack label and package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
  • Controls nausea and vomiting caused by radiotherapy
  • Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
  • Helps you keep down food and fluids during treatment
  • Reduces the dehydration that persistent vomiting causes
  • Well-established anti-emetic with decades of clinical use

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush or break it
  • May be taken with or without food
  • For chemotherapy, take the dose before treatment begins as directed – prevention works far better than rescue
  • Complete the course your doctor sets, even on days you feel well

Precautions

  • Ondansetron can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation). Tell your doctor about any heart rhythm disorder, heart failure, or low potassium or magnesium, and about other medicines that affect rhythm
  • Constipation and headache are the commonest side effects – 5-HT3 blockers slow the bowel. Keep fluids up
  • Not for use in intestinal obstruction, and it does not treat motion sickness – ondansetron works on the chemical trigger, not the inner ear
  • Use with caution in liver disease; the dose is usually capped
  • Discuss pregnancy with your doctor before use – it is prescribed in pregnancy sickness only when the benefit is judged to outweigh the risk
  • Seek urgent care for chest pain, fainting, an irregular heartbeat, or rash and swelling of the face or throat

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place
  • Keep tablets in the original blister, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children
