Metadoze-IPR 850 Tablet SR – Metformin 850 mg by Eris

Metadoze-IPR 850 Tablet SR from Eris Lifesciences contains Metformin Hydrochloride 850 mg in a prolonged-release format. The 850 mg strength sits between the common 500 mg and 1000 mg doses, giving prescribers a middle step when 500 mg is not quite enough but a full gram is more than needed – useful when titrating dose against tolerance. The IPR matrix releases metformin gradually, which keeps the digestive side effects at this higher strength manageable. Strip of 10 SR tablets.

Key Features

  • Metformin 850 mg prolonged release (IPR technology)
  • Useful intermediate strength between 500 mg and 1 g
  • Gradual release keeps stomach upset manageable at higher doses
  • Once-daily dosing with the evening meal
  • Strip of 10 SR tablets from Eris Lifesciences Ltd.

Composition

  • Metformin Hydrochloride – 850 mg (prolonged release) per tablet

Refer to the pack label and package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults
  • Lowers fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels
  • Reduces the glucose your liver releases into the blood
  • Improves your body’s sensitivity to its own insulin
  • Helps lower the long-term risk of diabetic complications affecting eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart
  • Also used in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) where insulin resistance is present

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor – the dose is built up gradually
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water – never chew, crush or break it, as this destroys the sustained-release action and can cause a sudden dose
  • Take once daily with the evening meal, or as your doctor directs
  • Keep taking it alongside diet and exercise even when your sugar readings look normal
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next is near – never double up

Precautions

  • Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious risk. Seek urgent medical care for unusual muscle pain, severe tiredness, breathlessness, stomach pain with vomiting, or feeling cold and faint
  • Stop before scans using contrast dye and before surgery – tell the radiologist or surgeon you take metformin
  • Not for use in significant kidney impairment; your doctor will check kidney function before and during treatment
  • Common early side effects are nausea, metallic taste, bloating, loose stools and appetite loss – these usually settle within a few weeks
  • Avoid alcohol, which raises the risk of lactic acidosis; long-term use can lower vitamin B12, so levels may be checked periodically
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, or become seriously ill or dehydrated

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place
  • Protect from light and moisture; keep tablets in the original blister
  • Keep out of reach of children
