Precautions
- Injectable glutathione is not approved by the CDSCO or the US FDA for skin lightening. Its use for this purpose is off-label and long-term safety data is limited
- Never self-administer. Unsterile injection technique risks abscess, sepsis and blood-borne infection
- Reported risks with IV glutathione include severe skin reactions (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome), liver and kidney dysfunction, thyroid disturbance and anaphylaxis
- Not for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding
- Tell your practitioner about asthma, liver, kidney or thyroid disease and any drug allergies before starting
- Stop immediately and seek medical care for rash, breathlessness, swelling, jaundice or a drop in urine output
