Locula 30% Eye Drop
Locula 30% Eye Drop is a potent ophthalmic antibacterial solution formulated to treat a wide range of bacterial infections affecting the surface of the eye. Containing a high concentration of Sulfacetamide Sodium, this medication belongs to the sulfonamide class of antibiotics. It is primarily used to manage conditions such as bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and blepharitis. Unlike many modern antibiotics that kill bacteria directly, Locula works through a bacteriostatic mechanism, effectively starving the bacteria of the nutrients they need to grow and multiply. This high-strength 30% concentration is specifically designed for more acute or resistant infections where a robust antimicrobial presence is required to restore ocular health quickly.
Key Features
- The 30% concentration provides a strong clinical response for acute bacterial ocular infections.
- Effective against a variety of common Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms that cause eye redness and discharge.
- Stops bacterial replication by inhibiting essential folic acid synthesis within the pathogen.
- Helps prevent the progression of superficial infections into more serious conditions like deep corneal ulcers.
- Manufactured under strict pharmaceutical standards to ensure safety for the delicate tissues of the eye.
Key Ingredients
- Sulfacetamide Sodium (30% w/v)
- Benzalkonium Chloride
- Aqueous Vehicle
Precautions
- This is a potent antibiotic and must be used only under the direct supervision of an ophthalmologist or healthcare provider.
- Do not use this product if you have a known allergy to “sulfa” drugs, as severe cross-reactivity can occur.
- To prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, finish the entire prescribed duration even if symptoms improve early.
- Remove contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Ideally, avoid lenses entirely until the infection is cleared.
- Never touch the dropper tip to your eye, skin, or any other surface, as this can introduce bacteria into the bottle.
- Store in a cool place away from light. If the solution turns dark brown or develops a precipitate, discard it and use a fresh bottle.
How to Use
- Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the bottle.
- Tilt your head back or lie down. Gently pull your lower eyelid down with one finger to form a small pocket. Hold the dropper directly over the eye and instill the prescribed number of drops (usually one drop every 2 to 3 hours for acute cases).
- Close your eye gently for one to two minutes. Apply light pressure to the inner corner of the eye near the nose to prevent the medication from draining into the tear duct.
- Replace the cap immediately after use. If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between different types of drops.
